Biography
The icelandic-german composer Steingrimur Rohloff recently
reveived a lot of attention, when he was awarded the
Bernd-Alois-Zimmermann-Prize of the City of Cologne in Germany. This prize
was mainly given to him because of his large orchestral pieces, which
juy-member Dr. Wolfgang Becker called "of an original fantasy... a virtuos
technique in the treatmant of the orchestra...melodical invention...exciting
colour-developments..."
Born in 1971 in Reykjavik/Iceland Rohloff later studied composition with
Krzysztof Meyer at the "Musikhochschule Köln". Supported by DAAD he went to
the Conservatoire national superieur de Paris to study composition wit
Gérard Grisey and Marco Stroppa, electronic music with Laurent Cuniot and
Louis Naon and orchestration with Marc-André Dalbavie. In 1999 he got
selected for a course at the IRCAM in Paris. Since 2001 he studied
electronic music with Hans-Ulrich Humpert.
Steingrimur Rohloff has received numerous prizes for his compositions. His
orchestral works SOL, GRAVITATION and the Saxophone Concerto where first
performed in Gothenborg, Saarbrücken and Oslo. His works were played in
countries like Germany, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Denmark,
Finland. Iceland, U.S.A. Japan. Currently Rohloff has received a great
scholarship by the reputated ENSEMBLE MODERN.
